Albertina Rasch January 19,  — October 2, was a naturalized American dancer , company director, and choreographer. Rasch was born in although she would later shave five years off her age , in Vienna in what was then Austria-Hungary , to a family of Polish Jewish descent. She grew up studying in an imperial dancing school, the Vienna State Opera House , and "worked her way up to the position of ballerina through that institution. Rasch began performing before the age of fourteen. In , Rasch opened her first dance studio in Manhattan  where Bill Robinson taught tap.

The Schuhplattler is a traditional style of folk dance popular in the regions of Bavaria and Tyrol southern Germany, Austria and the German-speaking regions of northern Italy. There are more than basic Schuhplattlers, as well as marches and acrobatic feats that are often interspersed with the basic dance in performance.
